Deze purperorchis heb ik gefotografeerd in juni in het natuurreservaat Mandemarke dicht bij Mön's Klint.

Biotoop:

De purperorchis houdt van het hellend vlak en is daar aan te treffen tussen struwelen op schrale bodem waar de kalkgrond vrij dicht aan het oppervlak komt.

Bloeiperiode:

Omdat het een vroegbloeiende soort is waren de meeste purperorchissen rond deze tijd al uitgebloeid. Alleen na lang zoeken vonden we toch nog een paar bloeiende exemplaren.

Bijzonderheden:

De purperorchis is eigenlijk ook nog een zuidelijke soort, maar hij kan hier op Mön overleven omdat het op het zuiden gelegen gebied waar hij voorkomt kalkhoudende grond heeft die snel opwarmt

541. Lady orchid (the isle of Mön, Denmark).

I photographed this lady orchid in june in the nature reserve of Mandemark which is close to Möns Klint.

Habitat:

This plant prefers sloping soils and is found inbetween the brushwood in poor soils were the chalk is lying right beneeth the surface.

Floweringperiod:

Because this is a species that flowers very early in the season most of the plants were done flowering round this time of year. Only after an extensive search we were able to find a few plants that were still in bloom.

Peculiarities:

Actually this plant also is very rarely found this far north, but it is able to sustain life on the isle of Mön because these southern slopes are full of chalk which tends to heat up very easily.
